Kuba, kubanischer -- Cubanísimo! Eine Steigerung, die zwar grammatikalisch gewagt, musikalisch aber absolut korrekt ist, denn das gleichnamige Orchester aus deutschen Landen präsentiert uns ein Dutzend Kuba-Klassiker im Stil der 50er Jahre. Tanztechnisch war das eine ganz heiße Epoche: Vor der Erfindung des Rock'n'Roll nämlich fegte die ganze Welt zu Rumba, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha und Son Montuno übers Parkett. Neu ist hier allein das Titelstück von Bandleader und Pianist Ricardo Álvarez, den es von Havanna nach Hamburg verschlagen hat. Und eben dieses avancierte 1999 zur Hymne in sämtlichen Salsadiscos Deutschlands. Dabei ist "Cubanísimo" nur der thematische Auftakt für elf weitere Greatest Hits aus der Ära vor Fidel Castro. Neben Compay Segundos "Chan Chan" und einer originalgetreuen Interpretation von "Mambo No. 5" packt die Band noch weitere Latin-Standards in fetzige Arrangements. Das unvermeidliche "Guantanamera" und der berühmte "Son De La Loma" von Miguel Matamoros sind ebenso darunter wie Ignacio Piñeiros "Echale Salsita", das nachweislich zum ersten Mal das Wort "Salsa" im Titel führt und der große Rumbahit der 30er, "El Manisero", auch bekannt unter seinem englischen Titel "The Peanut Vendor". Benny Morés "Bonito Y Sabroso" ist ebenso unsterblich wie Arsenio Rodriguez' "Yuca De Catalina", welches sich in dieser Midtempo-Fassung perfekt eignet, die ersten Salsaschritte einzustudieren. Wer von den Afro Cuban All Stars begeistert ist, darf auch bei Cubanísimo bedenkenlos zugreifen, denn der Name dieser Band ist ihr Programm.
