Ricardo Alvarez meets in Havana, Cuba on December 2002 with Eddy Cardoza (keyboardist and producer) and Jose Manuel García (at that time president of EGREM, the biggest Cuban record label and music editor) to present his first recorded demo and musical concept of Extravaganza. The project is accepted to be completely produced for the Cubadisco 2003 to be held in May 2003 in Havana.
EGREM talk to Chucho Valdés to include him on the Extrravaganza album. The theme "Mambo En Re Menor" is selected by Ricardo Alvarez and Valdés accepts to play his composition on the record. The recording is made in Cuba and send it to Germany.
Middle of March is album "Magia" ready for factory duplication. Ricardo Alvarez produced a mixture of 7 own compositions and 4 cover versions of Cuban authors. The production is made between Alvarez Music Studio and Ecopark Studios, both in Hamburg, Germany, Mastering is made in Soundgarden Studios.
Ricardo Alvarez travels together with singer-percusionist Justo Suárez to Havana, to present the album on the Cubadisco 2003 event under the EGREM label.
On May 21st. 2003 is Extravaganza live premiere and release concert at Casa de la Música Habana. Besides colleague Justo Suárez on percussion, renowned artists played as special guests like José Luis Chicoy (Irakere, Arturo Sandoval, Perspectiva), Orlando Sánchez (Pablo Milanés, Mezcla, Cubajazz), Roberto Carcassés (Santiago Feliú, Estado de Animo, Columna B, Interactivo) and video-jockey Groilán Pereira (video producer and special effects expert). The audience had some selected invited guests like Frank Fernández (international piano concertist and educator), Giraldo Piloto (timba star, composer, arranger and drummer) and Edesio Alejandro (film music composer, artist and music producer), amongst others.
The album "Magia" is licensed by Urban Colors Madrid for west Europe.
Extravaganza is presented at Isla Mujeres, Lanzarote, Spain in a World Music Festival in July 2004. Special guests: Mo Jonas (guitars) and Mauricio Calquín (percussion).
A presentation concert of Extravaganza is made in Stage Club, Hamburg, Germany on March 10th, 2005. Artists guests are: Roland Cabezas (guitars), Justo Suárez (percussion), Camilo Villa (bass), Leandro Saint-Hill (saxes), Silvano Mustelier (batá drums).
A new concert is made in a cave at Haria area, Lanzarote, Spain with guests musicians Yarel Hernández (guitars) and Mauricio Calquín (percussion).
